2023 best Movies
We go to the movies for magic, to quote the great Nicole Kidman in the AMC commercial that I personally hope never fades. We want to hear tales about people who are completely different from us. As they accomplish things that we could never do, we want to support them. We desire to travel to locations that may never be accessible. Action movies better than any other genre capture those three things. You're in luck if you enjoy watching movies for the iconic fight scenes between the coolest people on earth in the coolest locations on earth, huge explosions, and vehicles that defy physics! In 2023, there will be an infinite number of action films.
There will be a sequel to just about any franchise you can name, as well as some you may have forgotten. There is a new Transformers movie, a new Creed movie, and a new Mission: Impossible movie. Superheroes, spies, assassins, more superheroes, Vin Diesel, a professor of archaeology, robots, dinosaurs, and, quite honestly, a few more superheroes are all present. But in 2023, there are other things as well. I think it's important that you understand that. In terms of action this year, there is a lot of variety.
Even some original action films exist that aren't based on anything, and no two and a half hour toy commercials appear to be in production either. Check them out if they seem promising to you! No offence to my franchise beauties, but Hollywood needs to understand that despite our love for our favourite actors and actresses, we're also willing to try new things.
Superhero Action Movies
That being said, let's get these out of the way first since Marvel and other studios now tend to release a few comic book movies each year.
- Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania
Release date: February 17
The first 2023 instalment of the MCU looks weird as hell, but I'm beyond excited to see Kathryn Newton make her acting debut as Cassie Lang, Ant-daughter Man's and a superhero/action star in her own right, as well as Jonathan Majors kick some asses supervillain-style as Kang the Conqueror.
- Shazam! Fury of the Gods
I have absolutely no idea what is happening with DC movies. Did you hear that the Batgirl movie was cancelled even after it had been filmed? But at least this seems enjoyable.
- Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3
for those of us who prefer a non-skip soundtrack in our action movies.
- Blue Beetle
I'm not absolutely certain that this DC movie exists in the absence of any evidence, like a trailer. But I'm listening because it features Cobra Kai's Xolo Mariduea.
- Kraven, the Hunter
Aaron Taylor-Johnson plays a Spider-Man villain in Sony's ongoing series of films about Spider-Man villains that don't feature Spider-Man. The filmmakers behind Morbin' Time.
- Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom
Release date: December 25
You must be eager to see more of Jason Momoa as Aquaman even if superhero movies aren't your preferred genre of action film, isn't that right? Without meaning to offend, but I witnessed Spongebob Squarepants and Entourage making fun of one of the silliest comic book characters, and he took that character and made him into an icon.
The action comedy movies
Who said comedies couldn't have big explosions and action sequences?
- Shotgun Wedding
In this romantic comedy, Josh Duhamel and Jennifer Lopez play a married couple whose wedding turns into a hostage situation. Additionally, it features Jennifer Coolidge and D'Arcy Carden, two of our current favourites.
- Cocaine Bear
Release date: February 24
It centres on a bear who consumes cocaine. Must I say more?
- Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves
This hilarious-looking film based on the role-playing game that was once reserved for quiet nerds features Chris Pine, Michelle Rodriguez, and Regé-Jean Page as the main characters. Then came Stranger Things. I suppose the more the merrier.
All of the other action movies
I'll be honest: most of it is a sequel. I actually forgot there were franchises here. However, there are also original action films, and I actually want to see some of these sequels!
- Creed III
Jonathan Majors appears to fight in other action films released in March besides the Ant-Man one. His year appears to be here! Even though I'm not a huge fan of boxing movies, I appreciate that Creed has continued the Rocky franchise. Fun fact: This film was directed by Michael B. Jordan.
- 65
Dinosaurs are fought by Adam Driver. Need I say it again? I will. It concerns a spacecraft pilot who crashes on an unidentified planet only to discover that he is actually on Earth, which was created just 65 billion years ago (hence the title). Personally, I'd have chosen aliens. Since it was made by the same director as A Quiet Place, you can anticipate both a scary and exciting story.
- John Wick: Chapter 4
Is John Wick's story over now? We'll likely learn this year, I suppose.
- The Mother
Jennifer Lopez—the era of the action star? She portrays an assassin who reconciles with her daughter after a long separation in order to save her life. So it's also the Liam Neeson era for Jennifer Lopez. Count me in!
- Fast X
I'm sorry to break it to you, but your boyfriend, brother, father, or best friend wasn't the first to suggest that the tenth Fast and Furious film should have been titled "Fast10 Your Seatbelts." We all thought the same thing, but they didn't even follow through. Boo! Despite betrayal, going to the movies with the family is a great way to spend some time together.
- Transformers: Rise of the Beasts
Every couple of years, I ask foolishly, "Are Transformers movies still being made?"
- Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny
One of the most unexpected action sequels this summer is this one. Even Indy fans deny that one film, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, ever existed. Do we really require one more? Look at this trailer, though. It looks fantastic! Phoebe Waller-Bridge has my full attention, and the younger Harrison Ford seems... seductive? Help!!
